Where Moses stood and the desert speaks

Jordan holds the final chapters of the Exodus and the threshold of the Promised Land. From the summit of Mount Nebo — where Moses saw Canaan and breathed his last — to the rose-red city of Petra carved by ancient hands, this seven-day faith journey moves through layers of Scripture and stone. Add it to an Israel tour or travel it on its own: Jordan rewards the congregation that is willing to go deeper into the biblical world.
Mount Nebo — the summit where Moses viewed the Promised Land before his death (Deuteronomy 34)
Madaba — the sixth-century Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land, still largely intact
The Baptism Site — Bethany Beyond the Jordan (Al-Maghtas), the recognized site of Jesus' baptism
The King's Highway — the ancient road of the Exodus, traveled by Moses and the Israelites
Petra — the Nabataean city carved from rose-red sandstone, a wonder of the ancient world
Jerash — one of the best-preserved Roman Decapolis cities outside Italy
The Journey
Depart from your home city for Amman, the capital of Jordan. Your group crosses into a land shaped by the Exodus, the prophets, and the early Church.
Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport. Transfer to your hotel and gather as a group for orientation. Amman is built on ancient Philadelphia — one of the cities of the Decapolis where Jesus' fame spread (Matthew 4:25). Rest and prepare for the days ahead.
Begin at Mount Nebo, the summit from which Moses gazed upon the Promised Land he would not enter (Deuteronomy 34:1–4). Stand at the memorial marking the traditional site of his death and burial — a profoundly moving moment for any congregation. Descend to Madaba and visit the sixth-century Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land, set into the floor of a church still in use today. Continue to the shores of the Dead Sea for the afternoon.
Travel south along the King's Highway — one of the oldest continuously used roads in the world, the very route Moses sought permission to travel through Edom (Numbers 20:17). This ancient road winds through dramatic highland scenery and biblical territory, passing sites connected to the wandering Israelites. Arrive in the Petra region by evening.
Enter Petra on foot through the Siq — a narrow canyon of towering sandstone that opens suddenly onto the great facade of the Treasury. The Nabataeans who built this city controlled the trade routes that connected Arabia, Egypt, and the Mediterranean world Paul traveled. Spend the morning walking the ancient city: the Street of Facades, the Roman theater, the Colonnade Street. Petra is a reminder that the world of the New Testament was vast, commercial, and deeply interconnected.
Travel north to Jerash, the ancient Gerasa — one of the cities of the Decapolis, preserved to a degree unmatched almost anywhere in the Roman world. Walk the colonnaded main street, the forum, the temples, and the arches. Then proceed to Al-Maghtas on the east bank of the Jordan River: the site recognized by both Jordan and the Vatican as the place of Jesus' baptism (John 1:28). Stand at the water's edge where John baptized and the Spirit descended.
Transfer to Queen Alia International Airport for your return flight. You have walked the land of the Exodus, stood where Moses died with his eyes fixed on a promise, and touched the river where the ministry of Jesus began.
